Mysteries of the Sith Retrospective

Over at GamingWithChildren:
Quote:
While in theory this could be game could have been called Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith expansion, fortunately it was just called Star Wars Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith and is easily abbreviated as MotS. It was released in early 1998, a mere four months after the release of a game still marked as one of the best first-person shooters of all time, and despite getting lower reviews than that game it remains a fan favorite and a standout release for an expansion pack. Yes, and since it was released ten years ago, I have taken another run through the game and looked back at MotS for the next entry in my Retrospective series.

Great review, Mike. I still have JK and MotS sitting at home, and it may be time to blow the dust off them. I'm on an old school kick with side-scrollers and such, so I might be in the right frame of mind.

I loved that you can play as Mara Jade. She's my second favorite EU character. Right after Kyle of course. I need to play these games again soon. Unlike Dark Forces, I think my PC can run those just fine. The FMV cutscenes in JK may pose an issue but the game should still run at full resolution.

I still need to play it someday. Same with Dark Forces and the first Jedi Knight game.

Yes, I know that I've just socially stigmatised myself.

I've been getting the urge to play Jedi Knight again lately. Is there anything I need to be aware of for running it on XP?

Just recall that you need to create a shortcut directly to the JK.exe and Sith.exe as the Launcher won't work ... everything else works fine!
